Made with love in Stillwater, Minnesota.

I was born and raised on the North Shore of Minnesota. Growing up, I worked at my grandparents’ gift shop on the edge of Two Harbors. When I was 10 years old, my Grandpa Windy started selling apparel that he pressed and embroidered in house (literally, in their basement!) and this is where I learned the skills that have gotten me to where I am today.

Budion Designs focuses on using Heat Transfer Vinyl (HTV) and transfers to create custom looks for a multitude of teams, clubs, groups, schools and businesses not just locally but across the US.

I’m a wife, a mom of three busy kids and 2 cute pups, and a French teacher by day. In my “free time", I love creating custom apparel for clients and friends. Starting this small business and becoming an entrepreneur are among my proudest achievements.

Thank you for visiting my website. I hope you found something you like, and if not, let’s create something fun together!

 FAQs

  • This is a big one. The price point for each items depends on a multitude of things:

    1. Brand. My default-#1-go-to is Bella+Canvas because their apparel items are so butter soft and comfy. It’s literally all I wear. But, this premium apparel comes at a price. For clients that are looking for a lower price point (I get it!), then there are options such as Gildan, Jerzees, and Hanes. All products are wonderful and will make your custom gear something to last through many wears and washes.

    2. Design/Logo. Does your logo have one color and just go on the front? Bingo- that’s the least expensive option! Adding even ONE more color greatly affects the price- it means more vinyl, another cut, another press, etc. Full color designs are amazing, but again, they come at price. Also, I LOVE putting names on gear. It’s one of the main reasons I started making shirts and hoodies! But, again, its additional vinyl, another cut, another press. Names on the sleeve are smaller and less expensive, names and numbers on the back add a significant amount to the cost.

    3. Fundraising! Quite a few booster clubs and PTAs use these apparel sales as fundraising and I am here for it! Typically, $5 is added on to each item to make a clean amount that goes to the organization once the deadline passes. I’m so happy to do this to help local clubs/teams/schools.

  • Ooh, I pride myself on efficiency and quick turnarounds! Typically, when the stars align, deliveries are made within 2 weeks of ordering. Is this always the case- no, but dang if I don’t try!

Things that might affect production are:

    • my wholesaler being out of stock

    • a HUGE order (yay! But phew!)

    • personal or family illness (I’m a one-woman operation and I try so hard to stay healthy!)

    • major school year events. I’ll be honest, the first 2 weeks of the school year (teachers workshops and the actual first week with students), I am knocked out. I need to focus 100% of my energy on my career that I am so blessed to have! Also, weeks when there’s conferences- yikes! That means full days AND full nights, which I love, but I’m just not able to be productive with my business.

I appreciate your grace and patience with all of this. I get so excited when I order things too!

  • I get this one every once and awhile. I have to hold strong on this- each item is custom cut and pressed to order. Because of this, I cannot do refunds or exchanges. I don’t have a storefront (yet!), and most items have team/school/club names and logos on them.

Typically when this does come up, I encourage clients to see if anyone else in their circle would buy the apparel off of them. That way, they can put the money towards a new order if they prefer.

Sometimes, my wholesaler sends me gear with holes in it or loose seams. It makes me mad when it gets past my own quality control, but I’m human and things happen.

Also, I’ve been known to misspell names or mixup sizes. No one hates this more than me! I’ve learned my lesson and that is why I copy and paste directly from online invoices to ensure this doesn’t happen again…

I promise, I will fix whatever it is in the timeliest way possible. I pride myself on having great customer service!

  • You betcha!

I can do ONE item, I can do a good couple hundred of an item. I have no minimum and no deadlines. I like to say that my deadline is your deadline.

If you’d like something before a certain date, I need at least 3 weeks to ensure that can happen. Have I completed orders within the same day-yup! But that’s on a slow day in the summer when the stars align.

Again, I pride myself on having a faster turnaround time, but I always err on the side of caution.

  • Yes, you definitely can, BUT- I cannot make any guarantees that things will turn out perfect. If it’s a very special personal item, I would shy away from doing anything that could potentially ruin it. Heat Transfer Vinyl doesn’t work on all types of fabric.

If you have a favorite style of apparel (Target hoodies, moisture-wicking gear from TJMaxx, etc), you bet! I’ve started to ask that IF you can order even just one extra, just in case, that would be wonderful (especially if you can return it).

Again, I cannot guarantee anything, but I’ll do my absolute best.

  • At this time, I don’t have the space or capacity to embroider. Honestly, this was the number 1 thing I did for my grandparents’ business (see the About info). I can thread a machine like a boss, but I might have maxed out my embroidery patience for another 20-some years ;)

  • Do I screenprint? No.

    Silkscreen? Nope.

    Embroider? See above ;)

But I respond to these questions from clients all the same- glossing over it and just diving into the design!

What I do is Heat Transfer Vinyl. I have a Silhouette Cameo 4 vinyl cutter and I use the coordinating software to design and then cut Siser vinyl to order.

My oldest brother gifted me with a gorgeous HotTronix heat press and my middle brother helps me with designs way more often then I’d like to admit. My kids help weed out the vinyl and they market my gear to their friends, and Patrick is my superhandsome delivery guy. My parents cheer me on each step of the way. It’s very much a family affair!

  • Need just a list? Scroll down just a bit :)

A few years ago, I finally used my birthday money to purchase a Silhouette Cameo 3. I went back and forth between that and a Cricut, but I chose a Cameo because of the software. I have since gone through another Cameo 3 and I’m onto a Cameo 4 now (faster speed and quieter).

As for accessories, I use the Cameo 12” cutting mat (standard tack), a Silhouette hook tool, the Cricut Essential Vinyl Tool kit (mostly for the piercing tool and small scraper), the Cricut Truecontrol knife and a great pair of Fiskars scissors. I’d recommend having extra cutting mats and machine blades on-hand because I always need them in a pinch. On my workspace, I use a 24x24 Cricut Self-Healing mat to protect my desk.

I use Siser vinyl 99% of the time. It cutes great, weeds out easily, and I can buy it in 5ft rolls. Cricut has great vinyl too, but it comes in smaller lengths and can be fussy sometimes on weeding and peeling after the press.

My first heat press is actually my Grandpa’s heat press! It’s a tank and very industrial, but it was a free hand-me-down from the Shop and I love it so dang much. My oldest brother Chris gifted me with a brand new Stahl’s HotTronix 16x16in clamshell heat press just last year, so that has now taken up residency in my workspace. I purchased a smaller rectangular platen to use when pressing backpacks and smaller items. I use teflon sheets from Amazon to protect my press and the apparel.

Other items I have but don’t use too often are: Cricut heat press 12x12 and the coordinating cushion/mat; the Cricut mini heat press and stand; a Cricut hat press; adhesive vinyl and transfer sheets (not my forté).
